MILWAUKEE – April 28, 2020 – Clarios has pledged $350,000 to aid in COVID-19 global relief efforts, including $100,000 from the Clarios Foundation to UNICEF, helping to ensure children and families receive supplies and information to reduce the impact of the crisis, and $250,000 collectively to organizations in the U.S., Europe, China and Latin America, addressing needs in communities where Clarios operates.

Clarios also has launched a GoFundMe with UNICEF USA where concerned employees, customers and stakeholders can join in supporting global relief of COVID-19.

“These funds will have immediate and meaningful impact for children and those on the front lines saving lives, caring for the sick and vulnerable, and working to bring an end to this pandemic,” said John Barkhouse, interim CEO and chairman, Clarios. “UNICEF’s vision aligns closely with Clarios, as we seek better solutions that advance the profound impact we can have on those who call our planet home.”

"UNICEF’s focus includes health education for vulnerable populations, supply distribution for healthcare facilities and health and nutrition services for pregnant women and young children. The funds will help provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to frontline health workers, education for millions of children who are out of school, and prevention messaging to vulnerable communities around the world.”

The UNICEF donation comes from the Clarios Foundation, established in 2020 to support the company’s strategic priorities through three focus areas: Children’s Health and the Environment, Circular Economy Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Sustainable Communities. The company’s blueprint for sustainability is built on 130 years of leadership in battery innovation, design, materials sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, collection and recycling.

The additional $250,000 donated by Clarios includes a contribution to Feeding America in the U.S., serving vulnerable community members nationwide through 200 food banks. In Latin America, the donation will be split among Brazil, Colombia and Mexico to support local food banks, as well as COMUNIDAR, a non-profit organization that is enabling a network of local engineers, doctors and donors, to help produce “splitters” that will double the capacity of respirators at public hospitals. In Europe, funds will be donated to support Fondazione Comunità Bresciana, a community effort in Brescia, Italy to support local hospitals and medical professionals. Finally, in China, Clarios has donated critical medical supplies and equipment to health care organizations, and batteries to frontline workers.
